It means you get to keep some of what you earn, maybe 10%, and but the other ~90% would go back into society. But the 10% would be yours to keep. So share but also keep some for yourself. 'nuff said.

The same book puts this otherwise as, paraphrasing but quoting the idea pretty directly, '"save 1/10 of thy gold and put it into an investment."'

Folks, if you havent, the take-away is, do go and read this book "The Richest Man in Babylon" if you haven't already and if you are interested in personal finance.
  
In conclusion, you don't get to keep all you earn, but you can keep some and also invest it, and, you would share much of what you eaarn, this is maybe not intuitive but is reasonable.
