Kia Rio Overestimates Gas Usage 50 Miles Per Tank

kia rio estimates miles left to go until next fillup.

a.k.a., estimates how long each tank of gas will last.

See pictures below.

But long story short, it is overestimating.

I knew it was just from how I felt it running through gas more quickly than it advertised that it was. After all I’ve owned this car for at least 9 months now, I’ve probably gone through about 35 tanks of gas or more at this point.

Here are the numbers calculations.

Pictures/evidence is to follow.

In short though, the verdict is that this 2020 kia rio overestimates by about 50 miles per tank, how far it thinks the tank of gas will last. so it says it will last 250 miles -ish but one tank in reality only lasts 200 miles -ish.

Numbers here:

524 to 597 mi so 73 miles passed

same time the estimated time to fillup went from 258 to 162 so 96 'estimated' miles passed (or recalculated more accurately)

so its off by 23 miles in its estimates. it estimated that much gas would last me 96 miles but it only lasted me 73 miles

And so its about halfway through now.

So extrapolating that by about x2, the verdict is that this 2020 kia rio overestimates by about 50 miles per tank, how far it thinks the tank of gas will last. so it says it will last 250 miles -ish but one tank in reality only lasts 200 miles -ish.

ok days pass. Update screenshot here:

524 to 597 mi so 73 miles passed

same time the estimated time to fillup went from 258 to 162 so 96 'estimated' miles passed (or recalculated more accurately)

So still overestimated. But the gap is closing at least!

In conclusion, kia rio has been overestimating gas tank usage miles per tank.
