Phone service is for voice-calling my friend.

2fa f**ks up phone service.

Rewind history.

Phone service is to voice-call my friend who I already met in real life.

We sometimes want to chat without going to each other's house.

Fast forward.

Now phone service in 2025 is to verify my identity.

!!??!!

OMGWTFBBQ!!!

It is not what I signed up for.

It is not what it was designed for.

So now it is leveraged to be a security device and a secure device.

Rewind to the past, it is not secure, we can hear each others' voice and tell it is each other. That is the security.

So not related to security at all.

Just related to convenience.

Now it is assumed 1:1 one phone line belongs to one human, and assumed only that one has access to that phone line, and assumed that replying on that phone line constitutes verifying I am me and that is my identity.

F**kd up!

Nope, nope, nope.

That is not what I signed up for.

Fine, moving on.

Where to go from here?

I am going back.

I’m splitting the two out from each other again.

I will use voice call for voice call.

And for secuirty/identity proving, I will use multiple separate factors that I keep private.

such as multiple passwords.

Or I will use a second phone line that is for verifying identity not for voice-calling people irl.

Or I will use access to known password protected areas (areas that I agree ahead of time are known password protected areas, that I keep secure.)

In conclusion, phone service is for chatting with friends.

Identity and security and passwords are just that -- identity and security and passwords.
