Review: 2D Barcodes Requirement is Coming

This is interesting.

Of course I personally think it could also turn shitty if every product __individual unit__ can be traced by its totally unique id barcode.

Because, privacy.

However.

The article starts to say some benefits too, so I start to see the upsides too.

1.)

Like the article says for processing returns.

I can see that. So maybe no receipt needed in some cases then, if the item is uniquely stamped from the get-go with a 2D barcode or a 3D barcode.

2.)

And the article says like for keeping on top of expiration dates.

Right so instead of the store clerk with their eyes looking at the expiration date stamp separately on the product label, the clerk could just scan the 2D barcode on the item, and the computer can calculate/notify if it’s expired.

Side note, awww..., would mean no longer needing to decipher cryptic expiration dates?!

(if you had to do this before you know what I mean, some of these are challenging to decipher the YYMMDD code etc)

https://www.reddit.com/r/DollarTree/comments/18j8nls/where_is_the_expiration_date_on_the_cheezits_bags/

So but the above two use cases could be good.

However I also see.

There could be complications introduced too.

I didn't see the article mention this, but, even with classic upc barcodes, if the barcode/printing is corrupt/damaged, then it can't be scanned, then it can jam up things for example slow down checkout time at the register etc.

In conclusion, 2D barcodes are coming.
