Firefox Tab Live Screenshot - Software Privacy Security Identity 015

firefox is taking a live current screenshot of the page and using that as the tab-hover image for that tab.

I just realized.

This is new to me.

Before this wasn’t what was being done.

It may have taken me a few months or years to realize this, but, now I see it today this moment 2026-03-24.

Ofc I don’t like it.

Why should my web browser take any screenshot whatsoever of any page that I’m visiting?

The answer is the browser shouldn’t take any screenshot.

I don’t care if it’s for a temporary, local, usage, or even if it’s meant for that.

Its just another place in memory on on disk that where there is a trail of the user’s (my,) browsing history.

Privacy invasive.

Here’s how I know this is what’s happening.

First of all my browser tab is on linkedin and linkedin is auto-playing a video.

Which I already separately don’t like.

so i was already ticked off.

because about 10 years ago that’s when web pages started doing that without asking and this just reminds me of that.

so then i open a new tab.

which by the way has ads, no way to disable that.

another pet peeve.

so now I’m grumpy.

then i notice hovering my mouse over the first background tab.

it is an exact still image mini image copy of one frame of that video that was just auto-playing.

sure enough.

go back to that tab.

then go away again.

the tiny screenhot updated to be a new frame of that auto-playing video.

enshittification.

constantly new features, constantly on by default, and it gets shittier and shittier.

so but shame on me.

why don’t i get Debian linux with Tor browser?  Then I won’t see this shit.

ah but however it’s not as easy to run Debian with Tor.

So shame on me shittily running Windows 10 with Firefox, because it’s easier, even though its flooding  ads.

So in other words, I’m flooding myself with ads.

but we are, most of us 95% of americans/people.

on our devices.

However.

I will leave this post on a POSITIVE note.

Firefox does do well for me for some things.

Thank you Firefox browser!

And so a solution is to use multiple browsers.

Use Firefox for what it is good for.

And then use another browsers for what they are good for.
