Review of GrapheneOS Cellular-device - Software Privacy Security Identity 018

I.)

Carried as daily driver for about 72 hours consecutive now.

Phone calls work.

SMS text messages work.

Contacts Addressbook works.

Alarm clock and timer works.

Web browser works.

II.)

It doesn’t constantly prompt me to ‘sign in’ to any mobile application store.

It doesn’t constantly prompt me to do anything.

This smartphone sits in my pocket or on the desk, and does nothing.

Until I want to make a call or text, then I use it to do so.

In short, one of the best mobile device experiences I’ve had in years.

III.)

According to my intel, this device while running this GrapheneOS operating system is designed to not ‘phone home’, i.e. I mean it’s giving less, or none, of my data to google/apple/microsoft, etc etc etc.

And thus in turn giving less personal to persona Richard Roma. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Roma

And giving less personal data to the federal government.

Yay, privacy, security, identity.

IV.)

It does have the feature, like iPhone does, where I can set a custom ringtone for my addressbook contacts.

Therefore what I did is, add my closest people and give them a custom ringtone.

Then if the phone rings, I know if its a close person or not.

No custom chime for text messages per contact though, whereas iPhone does.

V.)

At this point, I’m sold, this will be my daily driver as long as it remains the best as it currently is.

VI.)

2x gratuitous glamor shots of me holding the device showing the app screen and the home screen, here below.

Ya may see in the screenshots below, the icons at the top of the phone screen, it is connected to 5G, has signal currently (T-Mobile plan), and battery is charged up and I took these photos during the 6 o’clock hour.

In conclusion, used GrapheneOS live for 72 hours, it works for phone and text, it doesn’t prompt me to sign in, it doesn’t phone home, it just does its job well. I’m sold.

2026-June Update:

carried for 8 weeks now as primary device. phone calls work. SMS text messages work.

Side-loaded Signal-messaging-app works.   https://signal.org/

Note: multi-party sms-messages failed at some point. but not at others. Not sure if from carrier/network and/or from device/os, and if so then from which party.

I feel great. This is a sublime daily driver. I can text and call my friends and family with a touch-screen and the device doesn’t prompt me to log in, doesn’t prompt me with pop-ups recommending me to pay for more photos storage, etc, etc, etc, etc.  It just does nothing, excellently, until/unless it’s time for me to send/receive a call or a message. I’m still sold.
