#0246 2026-06-13 lemonmama.com By author Morgan Jassen Nuanced Curated Content Unbeknownst To Me - Software Privacy Security Identity 019 This we used to call "My ears are ringing." But in the past it was becuse we discerned that other humans had been talking about us behind our backs. Today oday I learned, myself from discerning it, not because anybody told me, that LinkedIn is curating the "Interests" (so LinkedIn Interests) that they show to me when I view someone's profile. In other words, I do think from observation, that LinkedIn must be having an algorithm that chooses two and only two, of my colleague's interests, specifically ones that the algorithm thinks that I myself personally will be interested in, and shows those to me, followed by that "Show all" link to show more/all of this person's interests if I click that. Why am I pointing this out? It's because, before today when I discerned this, I had been more naively assuming that I would be seeing Interests just sorted by some static sort-order like order of company size, geography to that person not to me, order in which that person added those interest latest first etc, not by anything related to myself (myself the one who is viewing the list of LinkedIn interests). I think this is what is happening, and I think LinkedIn algorithms are designed to do this to to spark engagement between the person whose profile it is, and the person who's viewing the profile. So fine. Good. I think this is fine. Now that I figured out that is what is likely happening here. However in order to accept it I need to get past the initial feeling that I was set up, that I was manipulated by an algorithm. And you know what, one reason I discerned this, is, today, twice, two different profiles I viewed, showed two and only two LinkedIn interests at the bottom of their profile, and, each time, one of those two were interests/companies that I was also interested in. And the first time it resulted in me messaging one person and mentioning that in my message to them. So good job LinkedIn, kudos. You have build a clever money funnel. "#0164 - We Are Here To Build The Cleverest Money Funnel" | https://lemonmama.com/lemonmama/2025/0164%20build%20cleverest%20money%20funnel.html No I can't prove that this is being curated by LinkedIn in this "interests" context/feed. However my intuition says that it probably is. And if it's not then this is where the world is heading anyways. The second time I noticed this, I started to believe this is a curated pattern. And I paused and didn't take action based on this content that I had seen. Moving on. Broader, outside LinkedIn platform. I am seeing this more and more in different places online and in the world. Curated content is popping up more and more in places where I didn't realize that it was targeted at me, and also where I did already take some action after as a result of having consumed that content. Ask me about the time not too long ago when, I had been recently visited near Salve Regina college in RI state, then, within a week or so, I started to watch a movie that featured the song with the main chorus words "Salve Regina" at the climax scene of the movie. The moment when I realized this, It made me feel bad that I am being manipulated. Ask me about the other multiple times when, good friends of mine have been scrolling their app and their device services, and some content flashed on my good friend's screen, and they immediately chuckled and turned their phone screen to show me that content. Maybe call them videos, or shorts, or reels, or memories, or infinitely more. (maybe tiktok, maybe youtube, maybe instagram, maybe apple, maybe linkedin, and infinitely more) So where from here? Where from here is, This is the future this is the brave new world we live in. Marketers and salespeople, for example persona Richard Roma*, will keep on targeting us with more and more subtly curated content, constantly from new and different angles, and we have to be conscious of everything around us all day every day to make sure we are only consuming what we want to consume, not what Richard Roma wants us to consume. * "#0221 - My Device App Service is Richard Roma - Software Privacy Security Identity 010" | https://lemonmama.com/lemonmama/2026/0221%20device%20app%20richard%20roma.html ~
